Morgan Dollar. 1878-CC. PCGS graded MS-66. About as nice as this scarce date can be found, in fact, its one of only 80 so graded by PCGS, with a scant 2 graded higher. Superb original rose gold toning on the obverse and reverse. Excellent cheek on Liberty, without the usual tick marks that so often mar these large coins.

Lot 443
Morgan Dollar. 1878-CC. PCGS graded MS-66. One of a small cluster of super gems from this date, of which PCGS has only graded 80 in the various states of normal and prooflike fields. A scant 2 have been graded higher, making this truly one of the very best available. Mega-gem fields without the scattering of bagmarks which are found on virtually all others of this date, even the cheek on Liberty is virtually untouched by other coins or detriments. Sharply impressed and without a breath of toning. An outstanding coin for the grade, mint and collector.

Morgan Dollar. 1880. An awesome coin with stunning iridescent toning. The obverse is bisected by a spectrum of colors with the deeper tones on the upper portion. The reverse is mostly white with a range of deeper iridescense around the lower portions. Certainly this beauty ranks with the finest of the 1355 proofs made. Population of 5 with none higher. PCGS graded Proof 68.

Truly outstanding quality, and one of 1,355 struck on Proof, few of which measure up to this coin.

Morgan Dollar. 1887. PCGS graded Proof 68. This is the Finest coin graded by PCGS, it is alone in the Proof-68 grade, with a single coin graded this by NGC. Deeply toned on the obverse, with a lighter area on Liberty's cheek and neck. The reverse is completely toned. Only 710 struck in Proof, and this clearly tied for the very Finest Known of the date. Superbly struck, and superbly preserved. An opportunity for the advanced date collector to obtain a monument for a great Morgan collection.

Lot 485
Morgan Dollar. 1889. NGC graded Proof 67. The Jack Lee specimen. And a fabulous coin it is, the obverse shows powerful contrast between the fields and devices. All is toned a delicate gold color mostly around the periphery. Perfectly centered and struck, with each device full, as expected from Proof issues. The Philadelphia Mint really geared up their quality as the century drew to a close, with coinage from this era showing far better quality than the preceeding hundred years, and often better than those proofs issued after the turn of the 20th century. Incredibly deep mirroring in the fields and superb in every respect.

Morgan Dollar. 1890. NGC graded Proof 68. One of the very finest graded! In fact, NGC has only graded 2 coins this high, with none graded higher. Deep violet rose toning on the obverse and reverse, with less toning at the centers. Excellent contrast between the mirror fields and devices. A low mintage Proof date, with a paltry 590 struck in all, this certainly in the top 5, and probably tied for the Finest Known of the date. Boldly struck, of course, and one for the specialist who demands the very finest.
